Should bioWRAP® be recycled or thrown away?

bioWRAP®, bioTAPE® and bioDOOR™ are engineered for the environment where most used shrink wrap ultimately ends up — the landfill.

They are formulated to biodegrade in anaerobic (oxygen-free) landfill conditions, where naturally occurring microorganisms convert the material into water, gas and organic matter without leaving persistent microplastics behind. Because of this, they can be safely disposed of with normal solid waste and sent to landfill, where the breakdown process will begin as intended.

If your marina or municipality operates a verified shrink-wrap recycling program, the material can still be collected there. However, in practice a large portion of shrink wrap gathered for recycling is later redirected to landfill due to contamination and handling limitations. The advantage of bioaqualife® materials is that even in this common real-world outcome, the material is designed to biodegrade rather than remain permanently in the environment.

In simple terms: Use normally → remove → dispose with confidence to solid waste dumpster.
