This winter I built a 16x36 bow shed to shelter my wooden sailboat and wrapped the structure with BioAqualife BioWrap. After making it through a full, downeast Maine winter of heavy snow, freezing temperatures, and coastal wind, I came away genuinely impressed with both the product and incredibly supportive of what the company is trying to do for the marine industry and the environment at large.

I’ve worked in boatyards for close to a decade and have seen the shrink wrap dilemma firsthand every spring — huge piles of plastic hauled away after only a single season of use. Spending so much of my life on the water has made that harder to ignore over the years, which is a big part of why I was excited to support a company actually putting real effort into changing that system. The marine world desperately needs more innovation like this, where environmental responsibility is treated as something practical and achievable rather than just marketing language.

I was very pleased with how easy the material was to work with during the installation process. Coming from years of using traditional shrink wrap, everything felt intuitive, but the BioWrap had an even more durable feel during application and stayed consistently tight throughout the winter. The tape included with it also worked incredibly well, which made sealing the structure simple and reliable even while working outside in cold conditions.

The Madeline Island Yacht Club shop crew had the opportunity to try Bioaqulife shrinkwrap for the 1st time this winter. They do suggest that a label or warning should come on the product indicating that less heat is needed. They said it was easy to work with and that snow seems to fall off easily. I've been shrink wrapping boats now for about a decade and it's my least favorite expense every single year. It is thicker, stronger and denser than regular shrink wrap, and I find that it self tacks more easily as well. It also seems to need a little less heat than regular shrink wrap, which makes the jobs go a bit faster. My customers love that the material is biodegradable, as do I!
