Does bioWRAP® really biodegrade in a landfill, or is it just marketing?

Yes — bioWRAP® shrinkwrap is engineered to biodegrade only in landfill conditions, not during use or storage.

Most plastics marketed as “biodegradable” require oxygen, sunlight, or industrial composting. A landfill is the opposite environment: dark, compressed, and oxygen-poor. That is why traditional polyethylene shrink wrap can remain intact for hundreds of years.

bioWRAP® contains a unique proprietary formula that activates microbial digestion in anaerobic (oxygen-free) landfill conditions. Microorganisms consume the plastic as a carbon source and convert it into naturally occurring gases, water and biomass — the same biological process that breaks down organic waste underground. No microplastic left behind!

The material remains stable during storage, installation, sun and winter exposure, and normal outdoor use. Biodegradation begins only after disposal in a biologically active landfill.

This behavior is verified using internationally recognized anaerobic biodegradation testing standards (ASTM D5511).
